The Theory Test Consists of Two Parts:
The first part is 35 multiple choice questions covering the Highway Code and general road safety. This section is designed to test your understanding of the theory behind driving. You must score 30 out of 35 to pass this part. Directly after completing the multiple-choice questions which is touch-screen it then goes on to the 2nd part of the test.
The second part is the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) and is designed to test your awareness of potential hazards whilst driving. There are 14 hazards in total on this part of the test, 13 of the hazard clips contain 1 hazard, 1 of the hazard clips contains 2 hazards. Each hazard carries a maximum of 5 points if the hazard is spotted early enough. The longer you leave the hazard the less points you get. The maximum points that can be achieved is 75, the pass mark is 44.
Training for the Theory Test:
There are various ways of training for the theory test. There are good books available to help you to train towards the success of you passing your theory test. We can also provide you with a CD for your computer (if you are unable to access a computer we can provide you with written theory tests for you to practice with). All of our instructors are highly trained in the provision of assistance with the theory test. |
